Design concept inspired by the River Danube

The first 60 retail and food outlets of Huma Eleven opened to the Viennese public in March 2016, attracting 110,000 visitors in the first three days, way beyond expectations.

Our design enabled hypermarket, electronics and large fashion retailer tenants of the existing centre to keep trading, while demolishing and rebuilding in two stages.

Stage 2 opened to the public in September 2017, adding a further 20,000m² of commercial space.

'Water world' interior theme

The interior design features light-filled spaces and a 200m² ‘water world’, with water features such as fountains in the central, glass-covered atrium.

Exterior cladding concept designed to contrast with the industrial surroundings

Externally, light champagne-coloured metal cladding distinguishes the centre from its industrial surroundings. Purposely folded in, the external walls create a sculptural effect that makes the entrances highly visible from the surrounding car park.

As general planner, Chapman Taylor was responsible for the architectural design, landscaping and interior design inspired by the Danube River.
