Chapman Taylor’s design for a landmark retail resort at Shanghai East Railway Station

Our vision for a commercial complex adjacent to Shanghai East Railway Station envisions new shopping, working, leisure and hospitality uses, that will create a new landmark retail and leisure destination in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The project proposes to build a “Dream Planet” with 24-hour entertainment activity. When built the intent is to create a modern ‘living room’ which will become the Eastern gateway of the city and introduce a brand-new image of colourful Shanghai glamour to the world.

The North and South blocks are designed to embody features of the Pacific Ocean culture and the illustrative culture of Southern China. “Icon Shanghai”, in the middle block, connects multiple themed cultural and entertainment areas and an amusement park.

The building is perfectly connected with the station. The facade is integrated with the roof. Its curved flowing exterior structure, like a shining galaxy, is parallel to the Western riverway and runs along the whole site. The wide range of themed spaces will provide an extraordinary array of new experiences to all visitors, allowing them to explore the wider world. From Hologram shows on the Fantasy Stage to immersive plays in the Inspiration World and experiencing nature in Pandora’s Garden and Water Street
