Transport: Chapman Taylor lead Singaporean National Development delegation around St Pancras Int.

On Tuesday the 11th of October, Chapman Taylor’s Peter Farmer, together with Robert Holden, Executive Chairman and John Shimmen Masterplanning Project Manager from HS1 Limited, led Minister of National Development for Singapore Mr Lawrence Wong and a delegation of 30 senior government officials and senior business leaders on a site visit to St Pancras International Station.

The delegation are in the UK to learn about and experience exemplary urban projects that are relevant to Singapore.  As Europe’s gateway into London, St Pancras International Station is a relevant model for the upcoming High Speed Rail terminus in Singapore (to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).

Completed in 2007, Chapman Taylor designed the integration of shops, cafes and bars into the new two-level concourse areas of this 1868 Grade 1 listed building.

The shops occupy the undercroft, formerly a Victorian beer store, opening up the floor level above to bring in natural light and increase visibility. The design creates high-quality station retail, sensitively integrated within the historic building fabric. The original exposed brick arches to the vaults are retained inside the shops to create a timeless design.
