Our Asset Enhancement team has a wealth of knowledge and experience in creating dynamic and complex design solutions for existing developments, and possesses the resources to implement them. Our work in markets around the world provides us with an unrivalled breadth of insight into what makes for a successful transformation.
Below are some of our current refurbishment and reconstruction projects currently underway across the globe:
Vaclav Havel Airport, Prague, Czech Republic
Renovated by Chapman Taylor, the remodelled terminal will help Czech Aeroholding further enhance the passenger experience through the provision of new passenger facilities and through the introduction of design elements that better reflect the cultural, historical and geological diversity of Prague and the Czech Republic as a whole.
Chapman Taylor worked alongside the airport’s operations team, commercial advisers and the REDesign graphics studio to assist in remodelling the retail and F&B areas to provide a more balanced and attractive offer, as well as designing a much needed Welcome Centre. Our studio in Prague has also been appointed to assist in the modernisation of Prague’s second terminal, which is ongoing.
Reel Cinemas, Dubai Mall, UAE
This flagship 27-screen complex includes a Dolby Cinema (the world’s foremost premium large-format cinema), a Platinum VIP Cinema, a Barco Escape Cinema (an immersive cinema format where the movie is projected onto three screens), an MX4D motion cinema and a dining cinema with a leading celebrity chef. There are also a number of specialist F&B outlets located within the cinema, where you can sit and relax and upload your comments to the enormous Twitter wall in the lobby.
The cinema is the world’s first to be fitted in every theatre with RGB laser projectors and Dolby Atmos sound systems, delivering the best possible picture and sound presentation. It also includes the world’s first fully automated online order and pick-up purchasing system within a cinema, allowing customers more time to enjoy the full experience on offer. The latest LED and OLED display technologies are used throughout the cinema. An enormous LED screen is positioned in the lobby, with curved LED panels throughout the complex. Phase one opened in November 2017, and phase two is ongoing.
Cineworld 02, London, UK
Chapman Taylor refurbished the 11-screen Cineworld complex at the famous O2 Arena in London. As well as modernising the cinema complex to cutting-edge standards, a large digital LED screen has been installed in the lobby. Seven more cinemas, including a 4DX theatre and VIP cinemas will be added to the premises by the end of 2018.
Chapman Taylor will also provide the extension fit-out and delivery.
Ashford Designer Outlet Extension, Ashford, UK
This extension to the existing designer outlet adds 38 retail and leisure units to the 80 units already operating, as well as a new events space and a children’s play area. The longest living green wall in Europe will clad the exterior throughout the extension. Links to Ashford town centre are being improved to facilitate better pedestrian access to the whole scheme.
Chapman Taylor designed the new extension alongside Applied Landscape Design. The extension is expected to add a further 500 employees to the current 1,000.
British Club, Bangkok, Thailand
The British Club, in central Bangkok, is a members-only club, established in 1903, centred on a beautiful colonial-era clubhouse. The existing, 1,000 m², 1960s facilities building is to be redeveloped, and additional facilities, such as children’s activities zones, international-standard squash courts, games rooms, a sports bar and spa areas are to be introduced. The design concept is inspired by the Union flag, with its unique geometry ‘draped’ over the club building. A series of bold, prefabricated architectural elements have been proposed for application to the façade, these being both practical and aesthetically interesting. The renovation design is aimed at complementing the existing clubhouse while modernising it and attracting a younger demographic for a new era.
Chapman Taylor won a prestigious design competition for the redevelopment of the British Club in 2016.
Los Cubos, Madrid, Spain
Los Cubos’s refurbishment adds fresh character to a 1970s office building while retaining the distinctive ‘cubic’ theme of the original building. Los Cubos contains nine floors of office space, totalling 32,000m2, and sits next to the busy M30 motorway.
Chapman Taylor’s Madrid studio won a competition to refurbish Los Cubos in 2015, with planning approval achieved in 2017.
Upper Precinct Coventry, UK
Chapman Taylor’s plan restores views to the historic cathedral spire and enhances the quality of the area’s public realm. Retail outlets have been improved and high-quality shop fronts have been introduced, while the upper levels contain new student accommodation. Our proposals on behalf of JP Morgan and Shearer Property Group include the removal of many insensitive modern additions to the post-war architecture which have proved detrimental to the urban environment. Work will begin on this major asset enhancement project in the summer of 2018. The development forms part of the ongoing regeneration of Coventry city centre, a programme which is backed by Coventry City Council.

Lowry Outlet Centre Watergardens, Manchester, UK
Serving the Lowry Outlet Centre, The Watergardens will host a series of diverse restaurant options within an attractive landscape which makes full use of the southerly aspect – creating a food destination which will have the best waterside views in Greater Manchester. The development will incorporate biophilic design principles to blend natural features, such as planted landscaping and improved natural light, with the urban environment. Existing waterside trees will be thinned out to ensure that the remaining trees have sufficient space to thrive, while also allowing for much-improved views across the water.
In addition to Chapman Taylor’s design for the Watergardens, Lifestyle Outlets will be delivering a new waterfront promenade which will connect the Millennium Bridge to the Lowry Outlet, as well as improved public realm and internal improvements to the outlet centre itself. The project is expected to create 150 new jobs and substantially boost Salford’s retail, leisure and dining scene.
