Chapman Taylor wins design competition for BOB Airport City office building in Düsseldorf

Vierter Büroneubau in der Airport City Düsseldorf

Chapman Taylor has won a design competition to create a new office development, BOB Airport City, in Düsseldorf.

The 14,750m² GBA building creates six office floors and two underground car parking levels with 115 car parking spaces. The central access, with an open stairwell and two elevators, is bright and spacious and offers the flexibility to subdivide the floor into as many as three units per level, with a rentable floor area starting from 230m².

The multi-space floor plan allows for a combination of cubicles, open-plan offices, team offices, quiet spaces and zones for different kinds of communication, creating a diverse range of workspaces for differing requirements.

A double-height entrance space opens the building to the street, with the entrance located in the courtyard, which is visually unified with the courtyard of the neighbouring building.

The facade has been designed as a high-quality curtain wall with a 1.35m grid to allow efficient and flexible fit-out of the office spaces. A varied mix of wide, fixed and narrow glazing, offset from one level to the next, combines with solid elements in three different shades of grey to create a lively appearance for the new building.

The design competition was conducted by Aachen-based office developers BOB efficiency design AG. Following on from our AirGate, AirPark and AirView projects, this will be the fourth office building that Chapman Taylor has designed for one of the most dynamic office locations in the city.

With this development of building plot 9, the last gap along the south side of the curved Klaus-Bungert Strasse will be closed. The design adopts the u-shaped structure specified in the draft zoning plan.
