Chapman Taylor Unveils Design Concept for Tianjin South Railway Station Area

The unveiling of this concept represents a significant milestone in the future development of Tianjin, as it aims to transform the South Railway Station area into a high-level regional transportation hub that seamlessly integrates people, culture, and the natural landscape.

Inspired by the heritage of the Old Tianjin City, the design concept envisions the creation of an "inner city" characterised by scientific and creative features, along with an "outer city" that fosters harmonious interaction with nature and its inhabitants.

Respecting the existing environment, the design preserves the main and secondary roads while refining the branch roads to establish a comprehensive road system. The proposed plan also ensures that as the city expands, the station building will adapt and grow, facilitating efficient and flexible circulation in and out of the station.

At the heart of the design is the Cross Street, a central feature that extends and enhances the functionality of the station hub. This street serves as a focal point for technology exchange and business trade functions. The inner city is divided into three major functional areas, with shared technology and innovation chains connecting various centers to drive industry transformation.

To enhance the pedestrian experience, the design incorporates three-dimensional facilities such as cross-street flyovers, aerial corridors, and sunken plazas. The integration of local flora elements creates a smart, functional, and ecologically-friendly landscape space.

Our vision embraces the principles of shared technology and innovation, fostering diverse and interactive spaces. The envisioned shared technology and innovation chain extends from the station core, linking the hub area with the outer city and facilitating technological exchanges. The ecological planning of the outer city draws inspiration from the Sanhui estuary in the Old Tianjin City, creating a worldly ambience that seamlessly integrates ecological elements, offering a pleasant living environment.

The future city of Tianjin will promote the harmonious coexistence between the old and new, the fast and slow, the near and far. With meticulous coordination, it will become a model for high-quality Transportation-Orientated Developments (TODs), exemplifying high-performance governance, and high-quality living.
