Muvi Cinemas reopen to Saudi Arabian moviegoers

We are pleased to report that all of our Muvi cinema projects in Saudi Arabia have now reopened to the Kingdom’s moviegoers.

The Muvi cinemas at Mall of Arabia in Jeddah, Al Hamra Mall in Riyadh, Al Nakheel Mall in Dammam and U-Walk in Riyadh have reopened with measures in place to minimise the risk of virus transmission, including staggered seating, hand sanitisers and compulsory mask wearing.

MUVI Cinemas - Open again - June 2020

Muvi Cinema, Mall of Arabia

The Chapman Taylor-designed Muvi Cinema at Mall of Arabia initially opened to moviegoers in Jeddah in August 2019. The 15-screen development, one of the first cinema developments to be completed in Saudi Arabia since cinema laws were liberalised, was the first of a series of Muvi Cinema developments in the country for Arabian Developments. The new movie venue includes a ScreenX theatre, a Junior Cinema, Luxury Muvi Suites and a bespoke Xperience cinema.

The design for the cutting-edge cinema complex has a theme of urban downtown, with the intention of creating a dynamic, modern and innovative cinema experience. Internal spaces are characterised by an industrial, yet luxurious, material palette, including timber, exposed steelwork, exposed brickwork and an exposed concrete floor.

Images of classic on-screen icons are portrayed with local cultural touches to establish a series of playful focal points throughout the public spaces. Digital LED screens and dramatic lighting installations complement the city warehouse feel, providing a strong visual identity for the development.

Muvi U-Walk in Riyadh is a dedicated cinema building, located on Prince Turki Alawwal Road, and is home to two new formats for Saudi Arabia - Dolby Cinema and Samsung Onyx. The venue includes a ScreenX theatre, Muvi suites and regular cinema screens

The cinema is capable of accommodating 1,400 people across the 13 screens, which will show a mix of regional, Hollywood and Bollywood films to moviegoers.

The Muvi cinema developments at Al Hamra Mall in Riyadh and at Al Nakheel Mall in Dammam offer six and seven screens respectively and are the latest completed projects for the group. We are currently designing and delivering several more Muvi cinemas across the Kingdom to add to our portfolio of cinema projects throughout the Middle East.
