Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Jizhi Park HKU School of Computing and Data Science wins a 2026 ICONIC AWARD

The Hong Kong (HKU) School of Computing and Data Science at Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Jizhi Park in Shanghai, designed by Chapman Taylor, has been named a winner at the 2026 ICONIC AWARDS.

Organised by the German Design Council, the ICONIC AWARDS celebrate outstanding achievements across architecture, interior and product design, recognising projects that demonstrate design excellence and successful integration within the built environment.

The award provides further international recognition for Chapman Taylor’s design of the HKU School of Computing and Data Science, which provides a new academic environment for the University of Hong Kong within Shanghai’s Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, one of China’s leading centres for science, technology and innovation.

The design creates a contemporary environment for education, research, and collaboration, bringing together academic and social spaces within a flexible and highly connected setting. The architecture responds to the School’s focus on computing, data science and technological innovation while creating an engaging environment that encourages interaction and the exchange of ideas.

Established by the German Design Council, the ICONIC AWARDS take a multidisciplinary approach to design, recognising exemplary architecture alongside pioneering interior and product design from around the world. The awards seek to highlight projects that contribute positively to the quality and evolution of the built environment.

The German Design Council was established in 1953 at the initiative of the German Bundestag and has since developed into an internationally recognised institution promoting the importance of design, architecture and innovation.

Completed in January 2026, the project reflects Chapman Taylor’s growing portfolio of education, research and innovation projects across China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Congratulations to our Shanghai team and everyone involved in this award-winning project.
