Skills Olympics Gold Medallist Isabelle Barron Receives House of Commons Congratulations

Isabelle Barron, an Architectural Technologist at Chapman Taylor, achieved the pinnacle of success at the EuroSkills 2023 Championship in Gdańsk, Poland, as she secured the gold medal in the highly competitive Digital Construction competition. Isabelle's remarkable feat has garnered recognition and congratulations from her local Member of Parliament at the House of Commons.

The EuroSkills Championships, often referred to as the 'Skills Olympics,' provide a platform to showcase the exceptional talents of professionals and apprentices in various fields, including engineering, construction, and computer coding. This prestigious event is held every two years, attracting around 600 young participants from 32 countries, each vying to prove their excellence in their respective domains.

Isabelle, along with her compatriots from Team UK, collectively clinched nine medals at EuroSkills 2023. The outstanding performance of the UK team prompted a warm welcome to Westminster by Ribble Valley MP and Commons deputy speaker, Nigel Evans. Mr. Evans personally congratulated Isabelle and her teammates for their outstanding achievements.

Isabelle's expertise in the Digital Construction competition encompassed creating Building Information Modeling (BIM) models adhering to ISO 19650 standards, as well as conducting clash detection and other tasks utilizing software tools like Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and Autodesk Construction Cloud. Competitors in this demanding discipline are required to complete tasks within strict timeframes defined by the BIM Execution Plan (BEP), which also specifies project information such as file, level, and workset naming standards.

Upon receiving her accolades, Isabelle said, "Being recognized as the best in Europe is life-changing. I hope that I can use my experience as part of Team UK to dispel some of the myths about working in construction and show young people the range of different opportunities that exist."

Chapman Taylor supported Isabelle throughout her journey to EuroSkills 2023. We take pride in Isabelle's remarkable achievements and we are committed to nurturing and celebrating talent in the architectural and construction industry.
