Planning Permission granted for Chapman Taylor-designed boutique hotel at Coventry Friargate

Planning Permission has been granted by Coventry City Council for an upscale boutique hotel near Coventry city centre, designed by Chapman Taylor.

This 102-key hotel will host a 100-key fine dining restaurant (with a flexible private dining/meeting room and mini-gym) and a 40-cover bar and a guest lounge at ground floor level. The public functions are arranged closer to the main pedestrian street to encourage an active frontage and a sense of vibrancy, with extensive glazing providing transparency and encouraging restaurant/bar trade from passers-by.

The ground floor will be extensively glazed, with the levels above covered with silver-metallic cladding which will give the visual illusion of the upper floors ‘floating’. ‘Darker’ columns of recessed glazing will contrast with the cladding to give the building a striking ‘barcode’ look, making it an architectural landmark in the area.

Chapman Taylor designed this new hotel for developer and operator Castlebridge Group. The hotel sits opposite the council’s new headquarters, which together form part of the wider Friargate business district masterplan, funded by a joint venture between Coventry City Council and Friargate LLP. The masterplan is a new entry point to the city from Coventry train station including the extended Greyfriars Green park.

We look forward to seeing this landmark design become a reality in the near future.
