Our world-class marina developments across the globe

Chapman Taylor has established a strong track record of creating world-class marina developments beside rivers, seas and lakes around the globe, including a design which has hosted the Round the World Yacht Race. Working in collaboration with experts from the yachting industry and drawing on our own cross-sector experience, we have designed and redeveloped marinas and their associated built environments across Europe and Asia, always ensuring that the venue meets the highest international standards while fulfilling the requirements of clients and the local context. Below are some examples of our worldwide marina projects.

Serenity Marina, Hainan Island, China

The multi-award-winning Serenity Marina is the first world-class marina on Hainan Island. The marina has hosted the Volvo Round the World Yacht Race twice, being the only Asian stopover host-port in the Volvo Ocean Racing Series.

To ensure the highest international marina standards, Chapman Taylor took expert advice from Camper & Nicholsons Marinas, one of the oldest and most prestigious names in the yachting field. The excellent mooring facilities are complemented by a combination of marine culture and entertainment facilities. A sailing school, residential units, offices and retail outlets are part of the mix on offer.

Chapman Taylor worked on the early conceptual design stage, as well as being the lead architects for the project – delivering the masterplan, architectural design and landscape development. Serenity Marina won the Marina Industry Association’s Gold Anchor Award with the highest possible rating in 2015. It also received the award for Best Asian Yacht Club at the Asia Pacific Boating Awards.

South Marina Yacht Club, Lusail City, Qatar

South Marina Yacht Club is located in one of the new main marinas in the Lusail development, a large new building scheme to the north of Doha, Qatar. The sustainably designed yacht club has a striking form, with a sculpted, curved roof which emerges from the waterline in front of the horizontal promenade, curling dynamically to create a signature skyline to Marina Bay.

The special building shape provides the interior with its own unique character. Sleek curves stretch from the café at the ground floor to the panoramic restaurant on the first floor, offering magnificent spaces for relaxation. The development creates a total of 3,300m² of floor space across three levels, with beautiful views over the marina and promenade. It will be surrounded by a new public streetscape, gardens and landscaped car parks.

Chapman Taylor provided the scheme design for this luxury yacht club.

Batumi Riviera, Batumi, Georgia

Consisting of six residential and hotel towers, the largest of which will be 42 storeys and 130m high, the seafront project includes a yacht club and new marina, a shopping centre, a casino, outdoor pools and restaurants, a multifunctional hall, a congress centre and a landscaped recreational zone.

Phase one will provide 38,000m² of space in a residential tower, along with 4,500m² of podium-level retail/F&B and an 11,000m² car park holding 315 parking spaces. The green podium will incorporate design references to vine leaves, reflecting the ancient Georgian wine making tradition. The overall development will also include marina facilities for 50 boats and a 19,000m² municipal park for use by all residents of the city.

The project sits in a six-hectare plot of land which will accommodate the buildings and two hectares of landscaped public land. The development will serve as an attractive seaside link between the historical town centre and the port and railway station. The site benefits from its proximity to the popular tourist destinations at the seafront boulevard and the old town.

Pujiang Marina, Shanghai, China

Chapman Taylor’s competition masterplan creates a stunning riverside marina which integrates water-based and land service uses. In addition to the high-quality yacht mooring facilities, the masterplan provides hospitality, retail, leisure and F&B opportunities within new and existing buildings to serve visitors and yacht owners.

The concept design envisages a wide pedestrian boardwalk along the Huangpu river surrounded by beautiful green landscaping and space for events and activities - creating a sustainable and regenerated waterfront for this rapidly developing new town in the central Shanghai district of Minhang.

Büyükyalı, Istanbul, Turkey

A residential-led, mixed-use scheme in a spectacular location on the coastline of the Marmara Sea, Büyükyalı is an attractive and sustainable place to live for families, single people and young couples who wish to enjoy the benefits of Istanbul.

340,000m² GBA project>span class="A7"> makes a clear division between public and private space - layering a broad range of uses and facilities, including 1,500 homes with prime sea views and 15,000m² of public space incorporating fashion, culture, art, music, kids’ clubs, a hotel, restaurants and a new marina.

Chapman Taylor is the Principal Design Architect for the project, for which construction is pending.

Oceania Point Marina, Huizhou, China

Centred on its internal natural harbour basin, Oceania Point Marina is further developed along the basin and coastlines by taking advantage of the superior resources within the harbour basin. Circulation has been planned to ensure the efficient and problem-free operation of the mixed-use marina.

Designed with the advice of Camper & Nicholsons First Eastern (CNFE), one of the oldest and most prestigious names in the yachting field, the scheme is designed to offer berthing for yachts up to megayacht size and to act as a beautiful venue for events of various types while serving the needs of residents within the new development.

The new Kalamış Marina will be a mixed-use project which will provide a waterfront venue for leisure, F&B, shopping and special events. The project will house exclusive leisure and lifestyle destinations and will serve as a beautiful backdrop for glamorous PR events, concerts, weddings and other events.

Chapman Taylor’s design aims to optimise the interplay between public circulation and waterfront accessibility as well as ensuring an engaging 24-hour experience for visitors.

The new marina will hold 1,600 berths, though it is already a second home to many boat-owning residents of Kadıköy. The nearby neighbourhood and recreational areas provide a strong urban context and a high-income socio-demographic base for the development.
