Exciting and innovative projects across beautiful Vietnam

Chapman Taylor has established a strong reputation across South East Asia for award-winning and innovative projects on both small and large scales. We are currently working on a number of remarkable projects in Vietnam, among several countries in the region – the Vietnamese government is encouraging the development of a world-class tourism and hospitality sector as well as new urban developments as the extraordinarily beautiful country opens up further to international travellers and businesses. We look at six of those projects below.

Mui Dinh Ecopark, Ninh Thuan

This mixed-use masterplan is inspired by the rich local history of Mui Dinh. Six resort hotels and a boutique hotel provide a total of 7,000 rooms, with an additional 500 ocean-facing mountain villas. All the residents will have access to many leisure facilities, including a theme park, a casino, a beach club and a mountain clubhouse, while an ecological park will provide an educational insight into the region’s flora and fauna for locals and tourists alike.

The Vietnamese government has approved the urban plan, masterplanned by Chapman Taylor, for Mui Dinh, and construction has begun. The project won ‘Best Futura Mega Project’ at the prestigious 2018 MIPIM Awards.

Sa Pa Masterplan, Lao Cai Province

Chapman Taylor’s context-sensitive masterplan for the Sa Pa resort in Vietnam’s Lao Cai Province creates a major cultural and ecological tourism destination for northern Vietnam.

The planned development will offer luxury hospitality for travellers in a beautiful hillscape setting, including comfortable resort residences and a wellness centre which draws architectural influence from the local area. It will also provide agricultural and medical research facilities, while a central retail area will offer a market outlet for the local H’Mong hill tribe to display and sell products and food, helping to boost the local economy and showcase local history, traditions and culture.

The project is located on a unique site with a diverse terrain of rugged mountains, hill terraces and protected natural forest. The beautiful views will help to reinforce a strong sense of place and make Sa Pa an attractive destination for tourists from across South-East Asia and beyond.

Also included in the environmentally responsible scheme are a community development centre, a bamboo preservation area, schools, a hospital, roads and public infrastructure. The result will be a thriving and vibrant resort which offers mutual benefits for both tourists and the local people.

Nam Quang Landmark Tower, Ho Chi Minh City

Located in the city centre’s District 3, Nam Quang Landmark Tower will offer 31 floors of mixed-use space, with five levels of retail at podium level, eight floors of offices and 18 floors containing 172 residential apartments. An existing, popular cinema will be integrated with the commercial areas in the podium.

The tower’s design concept draws on the shapes and textures of Vietnamese silk lanterns – serving to combine both modern and traditional aspects of Vietnam.

The curved shape of the tower is reminiscent of the lantern’s bamboo frame, while the façades on the podium areas are designed to be translucent, providing natural light to the interiors during daytime and shining like a lantern at night-time. With its glass curtain wall façade, terracotta mullions, and translucent stone cladding at the retail podium, Nam Quang Landmark Tower will be a striking architectural addition to the skyline of the city.

Coc San Urban Masterplan, Lao Cai City

The Coc San urban masterplan for the expanded city of Lao Cai in Vietnam will provide a modern and sustainable district in a luscious green mountain setting near the border with China. The masterplan will include residential areas, a logistics centre, a retail boulevard, a cultural park, mountain villas, resort hotels, a commercial, district, a leisure and entertainment centre, a medical treatment centre and new urban farms.

A luxury resort will be located at the southern and western sides of the site, offering an elevated, secluded and beautiful landscape with its own access.

The new urban area will provide a weekend destination for people seeking adventure, offering activities that make full use of the mountainous environment.

Hon Thi Eco-Island, Na Phu Bay

The Hon Thi Eco Islands masterplan will create a beautiful and sustainable eco-tourism destination which will complement and protect the stunning local environment. Spread across Hon Thi and three smaller islands in the picturesque Nha Phu Bay, the scheme will sensitively integrate with the landscape, which includes pristine beaches, clear blue waters and tropical hillside vegetation.

Alongside an organic agricultural area, marine research and innovation facilities and centres for turtle and coral conservation, the development will include a market town offering varied retail, F&B and entertainment options, a 300-bed hotel, 200 serviced apartments, 100 hillside bungalows, a family resort and a luxury resort.

Xuan Khanh Lake, Son Tay

Xuan Khanh Lake ecological tourism and Buddhist spiritualism destination creates a convenient location for weekend relaxation, lakeside living and meditation in nature for visitors from Hanoi and beyond. The project is in Son Tay, a provincial town on the outskirts of the Vietnamese capital, known for its thousand-year-old heritage village and a laterite brick temple. Xuan Khanh Lake has recently also become well-known for the discovery of an almost extinct animal – the Yangtze giant soft-shell turtle.

The new resort will comprise several hotel and residential elements, including a luxury eco-hotel, a lakeside resort, a wellness resort, a spiritual retreat and hilltop and “floating” villas. The main focus of the resort will be to host functions for mind, body and spirit rejuvenation, catering to Zen spiritual tourists as well as general visitors. The lakeside destination dedicates special areas to meditation and Zen spiritual training and activity courses, with a school, an events and conferences auditorium, a yoga park area and accommodation for spiritual leaders, experts and students.

The project will retain and protect the natural resources on site, using them to create activities and functions for visitors and local residents. There will be areas dedicated specifically to organic agriculture, with learning and research centres relating to the cultivation of organic products, which will serve the restaurants, hotels and residents in the area.
