Didcot Orchard Centre extension opens

Chapman Taylor is delighted to report that the first phase of the 14,000m² Orchard Centre extension at Didcot, Oxfordshire, opened on March 22nd

The asset enhancement scheme extends the existing 18,500m² shopping centre with 21 new shops anchored by an M&S Foodhall. The retail is complemented by seven new restaurants and cafés, with 325 extra car parking spaces.

Well-known retail and F&B names, such as H&M, River Island, TK Maxx, Starbucks, Costa and Nando’s, will be appearing in Didcot for the first time, attracted by the strength of Didcot’s catchment area and the excellent mix of tenants that the Orchard Centre provides.

Our contemporary design brings about a distinct sense of space, integrating seamlessly with the rest of the Orchard Centre. The comprehensive development also creates a network of new public spaces, including a new public square suitable for markets and events, as well as strengthening pedestrian routes linking the development with the surrounding town centre. The new mix of uses helps to bring about a vibrant, all-day, all-evening atmosphere.

The extension is part of a £50 million investment by owners Hammerson, which is expected to build on the success of the current shopping centre and bring new investment and 500 new jobs to the town. The project forms part of wider plans to transform Didcot into a Garden Town.

Chapman Taylor designed and delivered the extension to this popular shopping centre, achieving a BREEAM sustainability rating of Very Good.

Congratulations and good luck for the coming years to everyone at the Orchard Centre.
