Construction progressing well on King Cross Shopping Centre transformation in Zagreb
Construction is progressing on the ambitious transformation of King Cross Shopping Centre in Zagreb, the city’s first shopping mall and a much-loved retail destination for the region. The refurbishment, commissioned by SES Spar European Shopping Centres and designed by Chapman Taylor's Düsseldorf studio, aims to preserve the centre’s distinctive identity while introducing bold, modern architecture and contemporary uses.
The revitalisation will feature a completely reimagined gastronomy concept, positioning King Cross as a leading regional meeting place. Visitors will be welcomed by an inviting outdoor boulevard with landscaped gardens, children’s play areas, and restaurant terraces. A previously enclosed façade will be opened with expansive glazing, creating a strong visual connection between interior and exterior spaces. A striking new canopy will provide architectural definition to the forecourt and improve the centre’s visibility.
Inside, a vibrant new central square will serve as both a social hub and event space. Warm, tactile materials, lush plantings, and integrated water features will enhance comfort and encourage visitors to linger. The redesign also incorporates flexible indoor and outdoor dining terraces, blending open-air vibrancy with sheltered comfort.
The upgrade reflects a careful balance between retaining the mall’s original charm and introducing forward-looking elements that meet the needs of today’s shoppers. Once complete, the King Cross Shopping Centre will offer a richer, more diverse experience—cementing its status as a cherished gathering place and retail anchor for Zagreb and the wider region.
We look forward to sharing further updates as construction continues.
