Leisure: Volvo Round the World Yacht Race sets sail from Serenity Marina for the 2nd time running

On the 8th of February, the Volvo Round the World Yacht race set sail for Auckland, New Zealand from the tropical port in Sanya, located on the southernmost tip of the island, Hainan, China.

The Marina opened in early 2012, creating the only Asian stopover host-port for the Volvo Ocean Racing Series, and this year is the second time it has been used since opening.

Chapman Taylor Shanghai worked alongside the client from early design stage and were lead architects for the project delivering the masterplan, architectural design and landscape development.

Serenity Marina is widely recognised as the best professional sailing marina in China as it not only provides traditional boat mooring facilities but also a combination of marine culture and entertainment facilities.

In addition to the annual Volvo Yacht Race, the marina is used as a leading sailing school, residential, office, hospitality and retail outlet.

The Volvo Round the World Yacht racers are looking at a three to four week race and will finish in Auckland.
