Chapman Taylor Architect and Planner Jorge Alonso will be speaking at The District World Summit 2026, one of Southern Europe’s leading international real estate events, taking place from 22–24 September at IFEMA Madrid.
Bringing together more than 15,000 real estate professionals, The District provides a platform for investors, developers, asset managers, policymakers, architects and innovators to explore the trends, investment opportunities and strategies shaping the future of the industry.
The event examines the global real estate capital ecosystem, covering different asset classes, investment strategies, market cycles and emerging opportunities, while providing a forum for international decision-makers to connect and exchange ideas.
The Value of the In-Between
On Thursday 24 September, from 13:30–14:00, Jorge will moderate the session: “The Value of the In-Between: Managing Real Estate Before Its Final Transformation”
Real estate transformation rarely happens overnight. Buildings and sites can remain in transition for years as they move through acquisition, planning, permitting and redevelopment before reaching their intended long-term use.
Rather than viewing this period as ‘dead time’, the session will explore how owners, architects and operators can use temporary and reversible interventions to protect assets, activate underused spaces, test new uses and generate value before permanent transformation begins.
Drawing on real projects and experiences, the discussion will consider how the ‘in-between’ can become an active and productive stage in the urban and real estate lifecycle. It will also explore what owners and developers can learn from temporary occupation, and how architecture, operations and asset management can work together when the long-term destination is clear but the conditions needed to achieve it are not yet in place.
Jorge’s participation reflects Chapman Taylor’s wider experience in adaptive reuse, regeneration and the transformation of existing assets, helping clients unlock new opportunities from buildings and places as their uses and market requirements evolve.
