Chapman Taylor’s Jon Hale to present at Climate Week Prague 2026

Chapman Taylor Group Board Director Jon Hale will present at Climate Week Prague on Monday 14 September 2026, as part of the panel discussion “Commercial and Office Buildings in the Climate Economy – From Commitment to Return on Investment.”

Organised by Chance for Buildings (Šance pro budovy) in cooperation with the European Commission in the Czech Republic, the event will explore how energy efficiency and decarbonisation can move beyond regulatory compliance to drive long-term economic and real-estate value.

The discussion will bring together representatives from government, banking, real-estate valuation and architecture to examine the relationship between evolving legislation, investment, financing and the practical transformation of existing buildings.

As part of the session, Jon will present Palác Dunaj, Chapman Taylor’s reconstruction of a landmark office building in central Prague. Originally built between 1928 and 1930, Palác Dunaj has undergone a complex transformation to create a high-quality contemporary workplace while respecting the original building's architectural character. Our design approach shows how carefully adapting existing commercial buildings can combine heritage conservation with modern expectations for sustainability, comfort, wellbeing, and performance. Palác Dunaj has achieved LEED Gold for Core and Shell under LEED v4 and WELL Gold certification.

The project provides a practical case study for one of the central themes of the Climate Week Prague discussion: how investment in existing buildings can protect and enhance their long-term value while responding to increasingly ambitious environmental standards.

The revised EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) is accelerating this transition, setting a pathway towards a zero-emission European building stock by 2050. For commercial property owners and investors, improving building performance is therefore becoming increasingly important not only from an environmental perspective, but also in relation to asset value, financing, occupier expectations and long-term resilience.
