Chapman Taylor’s design for an all-season ski resort

Imagine a beautiful mountainous village bursting with life, even when the snow has melted. Chapman Taylor’s design concept for this Central Asian resort takes its inspiration from traditional Alpine villages, whilst creating a vibrant and distinct sense of place.

The ski resort boasts a well-considered mix of leisure, hospitality, retail and residential amenities, ensuring year-round activity. At the heart of the village is a buzzing town square hosting shops, restaurants, markets and entertainment, providing activity throughout the day and into the evening. There will be a mixture of apartments and chalets of varying sizes, all planned to take advantage of the stunning views of the mountains.

There is a clear division between vehicular routes nearer the perimeter and the core pedestrianised zone. Access to the ski lifts is simple and legible, allowing guests to ski in and out. Ski hire and storage facilities are located immediately adjacent to the lifts.

As well as skiing there will be snowboarding, husky sledging, winter hiking, ice skating and snowmobile rides. A thermal spa, wellness activities, yoga and winter fairs cater for a wide range of interests. Apres-ski entertainment, an essential part of the winter sports experience, is placed a well-judged distance away from the main chalets.

When the snow melts, the lakes and mountains come to life with water sports, mountain biking, trekking, zip wires, rock climbing, paragliding, golf, team sports and many more activities for people of all ages and levels of experience. An aqua park, sitting adjacent to the town square, is open all year round.
