Chapman Taylor wins Asia Pacific Property Award for The Almaty Museum of Arts
Chapman Taylor is proud to announce that the practice has received an award in the Leisure Architecture – Kazakhstan category at the 2026–2027 Asia Pacific Property & Hotel Awards for its design of the Almaty Museum of Arts.
The museum is conceived as a contemporary cultural landmark that balances clarity of form with openness and accessibility. Composed of a series of refined limestone and aluminium volumes, the building is organised around a central internal street, a light-filled spine that structures circulation while creating a natural gathering space for visitors. This “Art Street” blurs the boundary between inside and outside, drawing people into the building and encouraging exploration, while establishing a strong visual and spatial identity at its heart.
The architectural language is both robust and understated, allowing the building's art and public life to take centre stage. Generous glazing introduces natural light deep into the interior, enhancing the gallery experience while maintaining carefully controlled conditions for exhibitions. The museum’s permeability and civic presence reflect its role as a new cultural platform for Almaty, not only a place to view art, but a destination for community engagement, events, and education, connecting people with creativity in an inclusive and inspiring environment.
This award recognises Chapman Taylor’s commitment to creating well-designed, successful, and culturally resonant destinations that enrich the visitor experience. Since opening, the Almaty Museum of Arts has become a key cultural landmark, attracting visitors from across the region and contributing to the city’s growing cultural and economic vitality.
