Chapman Taylor welcomes Women in Architecture delegation from Azerbaijan to London

On 14 July, Chapman Taylor was delighted to welcome a delegation of architecture students, academics and industry representatives from Azerbaijan to London as part of a knowledge-sharing visit celebrating the next generation of design talent.

The visit followed the successful Women in Architecture design competition held in Azerbaijan last year, which recognised outstanding female architecture students from leading universities across the country. The competition was judged by Chapman Taylor alongside fellow international architectural practices Zaha Hadid Architects and Scott Brownrigg.

The delegation was led by representatives from the British Embassy in Baku, Alex Tyrrell and Masma Mutallimova, and brought together students, academia, private sector representatives and embassy officials to explore some of London's most significant contemporary architectural destinations.

Chapman Taylor Group Board Director Marcelina Zielinska led an architectural tour of Canary Wharf, sharing insights into the evolution of one of London's most recognisable business districts, the architectural vision behind its landmark buildings, and the collaborative approach that has shaped the estate over several decades. The group also visited Greenwich Peninsula before concluding the day with a rooftop gathering overlooking the Royal Docks.

To support the tour, Chapman Taylor prepared a bespoke architectural map highlighting many of the buildings and designers featured throughout the walk, providing delegates with a lasting resource to accompany their visit.

The delegation included representatives from the British Embassy in Baku, PASHA Holding, the Azerbaijan State Fine Arts Academy and the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, alongside the winning students from the competition.

Commenting on the visit, Marcelina Zielinska said: "It was a pleasure to welcome such an inspiring group of emerging architects and educators to London. Sharing knowledge, discussing the stories behind some of the city's most influential developments and encouraging international dialogue are all important parts of supporting the next generation of designers. We hope the visit provided inspiration that the students will take back with them as they continue their architectural journeys."

The visit forms part of the growing collaboration between the UK and Azerbaijan, strengthening connections between academia and professional practice while creating opportunities for emerging architects to learn from international experience. It also reflects Chapman Taylor's ongoing commitment to supporting education, nurturing future talent and fostering meaningful global partnerships across the architectural profession.
