Chapman Taylor unveils Masterplan concept for Zhongyuan Medical Science City in Zhengzhou, China
Zhongyuan Medical Science City is a transformative 5,070-hectare development in Zhengzhou, China, which is set to become a flagship international centre for medical innovation and a vital hub along the Silk Road trade route. Commissioned by the Administration Committee of Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, the design reimagines healthcare-led urbanism at a city district scale.
The masterplan positions the Medical Science City as a beacon of innovation and health, integrating advanced medical industries, sustainable living, and cutting-edge infrastructure in a strategically connected location.
The design strategy has four strategic building blocks. Strategy One: Is to create a Medical Innovation Axis—a high-energy corridor that merges pharmaceutical research with airport-linked leisure and exchange zones. This intersection fosters global medical collaboration and dynamic knowledge-sharing.
Strategy Two: Is to create a Central Plains in Jiuzhou which is to create nine specialist zones that balance industry and lifestyle, supporting high-quality production environments alongside vibrant urban living.
Strategy Three: Is to create an Eco-Centred Development which will redefine the city’s relationship with nature, preserving a scenic 10km stretch through a blue-green network of forests, waterways, and wetlands.
Finally, Strategy Four: Sustainable Wisdom focuses on delivering essential public services—healthcare, education, sport, and social welfare—through six life service circles.
Currently at the concept stage, Chapman Taylor’s design for Zhongyuan Medical Science City sets a bold precedent for the future of health-focused urban development, combining innovation, ecology, and human-centric design in one visionary plan.
