Chapman Taylor unveils luxury penthouse concept for Koh Smach Island, Cambodia
Chapman Taylor has revealed details of a confidential luxury residential interior design penthouse project in Cambodia, creating a refined coastal retreat that celebrates craftsmanship, materiality and a strong connection to its natural surroundings.
Set against a backdrop of expansive coastal views, the residence has been conceived as a private sanctuary where the interior design creates an atmosphere of calm, comfort, and understated luxury.
The design is characterised by flowing, light-filled spaces that balance openness with privacy. Generous living and entertaining areas transition naturally into secluded private suites, creating a carefully choreographed sequence of spaces that supports both social interaction and quiet retreat.
A restrained palette of natural stone, warm timber and softly textured finishes brings richness and depth to the interiors, while integrated lighting has been carefully designed to enhance the beauty of each material and reveal the craftsmanship behind every detail. Rather than relying on ornament, the design expresses luxury through simplicity, proportion and precision.
Every aspect of the project has been developed with longevity in mind. Durable materials, integrated detailing and carefully considered finishes ensure the residence will retain its quality and character over time while remaining practical and easy to maintain. The result is an interior that is both elegant and highly functional, designed to support everyday living as well as exceptional hospitality.
Chapman Taylor has revealed the concept design for an exclusive luxury penthouse on the island of Koh Smach, Cambodia, bringing together contemporary architecture, refined interiors and a deep connection to the surrounding natural landscape.
Designed as a private island retreat, the approximately 664 sqm residence has been conceived around the principles of serenity, fragility and gentility, creating a calm, understated expression of luxury. Soft architectural curves, expansive glazing and a restrained material palette allow the home to blend seamlessly into its tropical setting while maximising panoramic ocean views.
Located around 70 kilometres from Sihanoukville International Airport and 215 kilometres from Phnom Penh, the penthouse has been carefully planned to make the most of its spectacular island location. Every space has been designed to enhance natural daylight, promote thermal comfort and strengthen the connection between indoor and outdoor living.
The layout clearly separates public, private and service areas, creating a highly functional home that supports both everyday living and entertaining. A private lift arrival leads into generous open-plan living and dining spaces, complemented by both Western and Asian kitchens, a flexible workspace and expansive terraces overlooking the sea. The ocean-facing master suite provides a tranquil sanctuary, while outdoor bathing spaces further reinforce the connection with nature.
The architectural language is intentionally minimal, with light-coloured finishes, large glazed openings and elegant horizontal forms creating a timeless aesthetic. Durable materials including glass, natural stone, aluminium and timber-look finishes have been selected to withstand the tropical climate while requiring minimal maintenance.
Inside, the interiors embrace a quiet luxury approach, combining warm neutral tones, engineered timber, natural stone and textured finishes to create a sophisticated yet welcoming environment. Carefully selected furnishings and finishes prioritise durability, moisture resistance and long-term performance without compromising on comfort or elegance.
Sustainability has been embedded throughout the concept design. Passive daylighting strategies, high-performance double glazing, locally sourced materials where practical, low-maintenance finishes and opportunities for prefabricated construction all contribute to reducing environmental impact while enhancing long-term operational efficiency.
Responding closely to the client's lifestyle, the design integrates multifunctional entertainment spaces, adaptable living areas and practical construction solutions, resulting in a residence that balances luxury, performance and buildability.
The Koh Smach Penthouse concept reflects Chapman Taylor's commitment to creating exceptional homes that are both contemporary and contextually responsive, delivering an elegant island residence where architecture, interior design and nature exist in harmony.
