Chapman Taylor Directors speak at Nanjing regeneration seminar
Chapman Taylor Directors Chris Lanksbury and Johnny Jiang were invited by our client Changzhu Group and Zhongkun Properties to speak at a high-level seminar in Nanjing on 22 April, focused on heritage continuity and urban regeneration.
Director Chris Lanksbury
Supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, the seminar brought together leading academics, industry experts, and practitioners to explore global best practices in historic district preservation and the future of urban regeneration.
At the event, Chris Lanksbury shared Chapman Taylor’s design approach, emphasising the importance of “genius loci” - the spirit of place, and the need to embed new development sensitively within the layers of history.
Discussions centred on how cities like Nanjing, with a rich and complex heritage, can balance preservation with renewal, ensuring that regeneration enhances both cultural identity and everyday life.
Chapman Taylor will play an active role in this process, contributing to the regeneration of Nanjing through the planning and design of the commercial component of the Jinling VILLA project in the city’s Xinjiekou district. The scheme is envisioned as a model of cultural preservation and contemporary living, combining heritage sensitivity with commercial vitality to create a flexible, future-ready urban environment.
