Chapman Taylor-designed student accommodation development in Bristol tops out

Skywalks at Freestone Road, a 204-bed purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development designed by Chapman Taylor, has reached a significant construction milestone, with the topping-out ceremony marking progress towards completion.

Located within Bristol’s Temple Quarter regeneration area, directly opposite the University of Bristol’s new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, the development will provide high-quality student accommodation in one of the UK’s most undersupplied university cities.

The scheme is being developed for a joint venture between Moorfield Group and Tiger Developments, with Watkin Jones appointed as delivery partner.

Designed by Chapman Taylor, Skywalks comprises four interconnected buildings offering a mix of ensuite cluster apartments and self-contained studios. The development responds to the growing demand for purpose-built student accommodation while contributing to the wider regeneration of Bristol’s Temple Quarter, one of the UK’s major urban regeneration initiatives.

Sustainability is a key design consideration, with the development targeting an EPC A rating and BREEAM Excellent certification. Low-carbon features include rooftop photovoltaic panels and a connection to Bristol’s district heating network, helping to reduce operational carbon emissions and support the city’s wider sustainability ambitions.

Once completed, Skywalks will be managed by Host Students, Tiger Developments’ student accommodation operating business, providing a contemporary living environment designed to support student wellbeing and community.

The topping-out milestone was celebrated on site by representatives from Watkin Jones, Moorfield Group, Tiger Developments and key project partners, recognising the progress achieved and the collaborative efforts of everyone involved.

The project reflects Chapman Taylor’s growing portfolio of purpose-built student accommodation and residential developments across the UK, combining thoughtful design, sustainability and an understanding of evolving residential needs to create high-quality places to live.

Skywalks at Freestone Road will make a valuable contribution to Bristol’s expanding student accommodation provision while supporting the ongoing transformation of the Temple Quarter into a vibrant, connected and sustainable urban district.
