Chapman Taylor completes Phase 1 of Galerie Porte Louise asset enhancement project

Chapman Taylor has completed phase 1 of the Galerie Porte Louise enhancement project located in Ixelles, Brussels. The project aimed to enhance the public area of the shopping gallery without causing any major tenant disruptions.

The scope of phase 1 included enhancing the ceiling, and Chapman Taylor developed different concept options for this purpose. During the studies and demolition works, the original ceiling from the 1960s was discovered above the existing stretched ceiling. This discovery led to a rethinking of the concept, and the decision was made to keep and restore/enhance the original ceiling.

Reducing embodied carbon in projects is a key challenge for the built environment, and Chapman Taylor aims to refurbish, adapt and repurpose buildings where feasible. By reusing old structures and carefully reviewing material choices we aim to lower the carbon footprint of the refurbishment.

With the completion of phase 1, the gallery now boasts a new lighting concept that brings back value to the original ceiling forms. Further phases of the project will involve coordination with consultants to work on the best environmental proposal for the MEP installations, as well as further refurbishment of the flooring, signage, and shopfronts pilasters.
