Chapman Taylor’ award-winning hospitality projects

With a host of award-winning hospitality projects in our portfolio, most recently winning ‘Best Futura Mega-Project’ at the 2018 MIPIM Awards for Mui Dinh Ecopark resort. Chapman Taylor is a global industry leader in producing user-experience-focused hospitality developments of all sizes and types. We have experience in creating everything from individual hotels and villas through to large-scale, mixed-use masterplans incorporating several hospitality elements. We know how to create an unbeatable experience, keeping on top of the very latest developments and trends in the sector. Here, we look at some of the key hospitality projects Chapman Taylor’s international studios have worked on recently:

Future Hotel, Chongqing, China

Chapman Taylor won a design competition for a “Future Hotel” in the Chinese city of Chongqing. The 63,900m² GBA project, located at the core of Lijia Smart Experience Park, is bounded by Baiyun Mountain to the north, Baiyun Lake Park to the south and the historic Baiyunzhai forest region to the south-west. Chapman Taylor’s concept design takes advantage of the beautiful location to create a contextual, smart hotel which will blend nature with cutting-edge technology.

The development, which will serve business and conference guests as well as tourists, will provide visitors with a personalised experience and a smart, efficient and healthy environment. Facilities will include a conference centre, a spa and fitness centre, a restaurant and private hillside guest buildings, as well as beautifully landscaped common areas and an entrance plaza and amphitheatre for events, socialising and working. An automated check-in service will use AI facial recognition technology, while a virtual "butler" will be assigned to the guest after check-in, recording guests' preferences and guiding them to an automated shuttle to the rooms.

Radisson Blu 5* Hotel & Spa, Karjat, India

Radisson Blu Resort & Spa is a 102 room hotel retreat situated on the Ulhas River in Karjat, Maharashtra, a two-hour drive from Mumbai and Pune. Opened in 2016, the luxury hotel is connected by a series of courtyards and benefits from views across the river to the foothills of the Sahyadri Mountains. The project was initially designated ‘Park Plaza Resort- 4-Star Category’, but the architectural design concept helped the client upgrade the development to ‘Radisson Blu Resort – 5-Star Category’.

The hotel, completed in 2016, has been rated by the Carlson Group as the "best Radisson resort property in India". Chapman Taylor was the lead design architect for the project, including the development of the landscape concept - one of the key components of the masterplan.

Brighton Grand Hotel, Pattaya, Thailand

Brighton Grand Hotel is a 5-Star, 450-room hotel development in central Pattaya, with conference and function room facilities complemented by a retail and F&B mall.

The prominent site boasts sea views, which the design focused on maximising - over 80% of the 30-storey building’s 448 rooms have views over Pattaya Bay. The interior concept reflects the local fishing culture and the dynamic movement of the sea, ensuring that the scheme blends harmoniously with its surroundings.

Chapman Taylor’s Bangkok studio designed the architecture and interiors for this popular and well-located hotel.

AlRayyan Hotel – Curio Collection by Hilton, Doha, Qatar

Directly connected to the Mall of Qatar, this is the first Hilton hotel opened under its Curio Collection in the Middle East, at Al Rayyan, Doha. The hotel provides easy access to shops, restaurants and leisure facilities at the Mall of Qatar. The hotel is defined by a dramatic internal atrium, its excellent F&B facilities and the infinity pools at the roof level.

Chapman Taylor was the design architect for both the Mall of Qatar and the AlRayyan Hotel, which opened in 2016.

Mui Dinh Ecopark, Vietnam

Intended as an unrivalled hospitality led mixed-use development in eastern Vietnam, the 728 hectare masterplan is inspired by the rich local history of Mui Dinh. Six resort hotels and a boutique hotel provide a total of 7,000 rooms, with an additional 500 ocean-facing mountain villas. All the residents will have access to many leisure facilities, including a theme park, a casino, a beach club and a mountain clubhouse. The Vietnamese government has recently approved the urban plan for Mui Dinh.

Chapman Taylor’s Bangkok studio prepared the concept masterplan for this striking development, which is currently under construction. The project won ‘Best Futura Mega Project’ at the prestigious 2018 MIPIM Awards.

Holiday Inn Express, Manchester, UK

This 220-bed Holiday Inn Express was constructed from purpose-built steel containers complete with factory-finished interior fixtures and fittings, all of which were installed before being delivered to site. The modules were stacked on top of each other without the need for additional supporting structures, enabling fast installation on site. All of the 220 bedrooms were placed on site in less than three weeks.

Chapman Taylor developed the detailed design for the volumetric modular construction process, creating a coordinated 3D BIM model and enabling the off-site works to commence in line with an ambitious, accelerated building programme. The project won “Retail/Leisure Project of the Year” at the 2018 Offsite Construction Awards.

Crystal City, Dead Sea, Jordan

The 153,000m² GBA Crystal City lies on a superb site at the mouth of the Wadi Ma’in at the Dead Sea, with views into a dramatic gorge and over the sea. A mixed-use development, it is planned as a major tourist destination for Jordan. The gated residential component is at the south of the site, with a 5-star hotel, waterpark and beach club being grouped in the centre and north of the plot.

The entire area will be given a special character by the wide variety of terraces, which are defined by pools, promenades and an amphitheatre fronting onto the coastline. Chapman Taylor has produced the masterplan concept design for this large resort development

Issyk Kul, Kyrgyzstan

A new resort town on a 1,300 hectare site on the eastern shore of the bio-diverse Lake Issyk Kul - once a stopover for traders on the ancient Silk Road. Combining leisure, entertainment, hospitality, education and agricultural production in a landscape sympathetic to the area’s outstanding beauty, the resort is designed to become a major international destination for eco-tourists.

Chapman Taylor developed the masterplan for this multi-use project beside this historically and ecologically significant lake.

Mandarin Oriental Spa, Retail Boutique and Ciao Restaurant, Bangkok, Thailand

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, a landmark in Bangkok, asked Chapman Taylor to renovate three areas of the hotel. The spa redesign renovated the exterior entrance, added two new facial treatment rooms and updated the Royal Suite. Existing treatment rooms were redesigned, a 25m² relaxation area added, back-of-house areas relocated and public areas renovated.

The 67m² retail boutique features a timber gable ceiling, large louvered windows and teak flooring. Natural brass, timber cladding and lavish fabrics are complemented by a statement chandelier. The renovation of the Neapolitan-themed Ciao Terrazza restaurant involved the use of stepped architecture and cast iron and brick wall finishes. Chapman Taylor was lead designer on the spa, retail boutique and restaurant, and also managed the construction phases, with the projects completed between 2015 and 2017.

PLAZA Grafinger Strasse, Munich

PLAZA Grafinger Strasse is the central development in a new district in Munich, on a former industrial site within the inner ring. The Werksviertel district is conveniently located near to the Munich-East railway station, and is being transformed into a desirable urban residential, office and leisure area.

Shopping occupies most of the ground floor, whilst separate buildings with various functions complete the block perimeter on the upper levels. The individual buildings are occupied by a hotel, extended-stay apartments, offices and a fitness and sports medicine building, over which a climbing centre cantilevers.

Sa Pa resort, Lao Cai, Vietnam’s

Chapman Taylor’s context-sensitive masterplan for the Sa Pa resort in Vietnam’s Lao Cai Province creates a major cultural and ecological tourism destination for northern Vietnam.

The planned development will offer luxury hospitality for travellers in a beautiful hillscape setting, including comfortable resort residences and a wellness centre which draws architectural influence from the local area. It will also provide agricultural and medical research facilities, while a central retail area will offer a market outlet for the local H’Mong hill tribe to display and sell products and food, helping to boost the local economy and showcase local history, traditions and culture.

MOLO Lipno Resort, Lipno, Czech Republic

The MOLO Lipno Resort will create a luxury leisure and residential destination offering lakeside apartments and penthouses with beautiful views over the Lipno lake and the use of the peaceful ‘Zen Gardens’. A 5-Star resort hotel offering a premium spa, a restaurant, a private beach club, a beach volleyball court and underground car parking is a centre piece to the project.

Xuan Khanh Lake ecological tourist resort, Son Tay, Vietnam

The new Xuan Khanh Lake ecological tourism and Buddhist spiritualism destination creates a convenient location for weekend relaxation, lakeside living and meditation in nature for visitors from the city and beyond.

Xuan Khanh Lake is located in Son Tay, a provincial town on the outskirts of the Vietnamese capital. Son Tay is known for its thousand-year-old heritage village and a laterite brick temple. Xuan Khanh Lake has recently also become well-known for the discovery of an almost extinct animal – the Yangtze giant soft-shell turtle.

The new resort will comprise several hotel and residential elements, including a luxury eco-hotel, a lakeside resort, a wellness resort, a spiritual retreat and hilltop and “floating” villas.

Hon Thi Eco Islands, Vietnam

The Hon Thi Eco Islands masterplan will create a beautiful and sustainable eco-tourism destination which will complement and protect the stunning local environment. Spread across Hon Thi and three smaller islands in the picturesque Nha Phu Bay, the scheme will sensitively integrate with the landscape, which includes pristine beaches, clear blue waters and tropical hillside vegetation.

Alongside an organic agricultural area, marine research and innovation facilities and centres for turtle and coral conservation, the development will include a market town offering varied retail, F&B and entertainment options, a 300-bed hotel, 200 serviced apartments, 100 hillside bungalows, a family resort and a luxury resort.
