A decade of success: Chapman Taylor’s New Delhi studio is ten years old

Chapman Taylor’s New Delhi studio is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary. Under the leadership of Director Sapna Kumar, the studio has been responsible for a number of nationally important landmark projects for India, encompassing residential, hospitality, cultural, office and mixed-use projects on a variety of scales. Some of the most prominent of the studio’s multi-award-winning designs from the past 10 years, are explored below:

Radisson Blu 5* Hotel & Spa, Karjat, India

Radisson Blu Resort & Spa is a 102-room hotel retreat situated on the Ulhas River in Karjat, Maharashtra, a two-hour drive from Mumbai and Pune. Opened in 2016, the luxury hotel is connected by a series of courtyards and benefits from views across the river to the foothills of the Sahyadri Mountains. The project was initially designated ‘Park Plaza Resort- 4-Star Category’, but the architectural design concept helped the client upgrade the development to ‘Radisson Blu Resort – 5-Star Category’.

The hotel has been rated by the Carlson Group as the "best Radisson resort property in India". Chapman Taylor was the Lead Design Architect for the project, including the development of the landscape concept - one of the key components of the masterplan.

M3M Financial Centre, Gurugram, India

M3M Financial Centre will be a 75,000m² GLA retail and office tower development, adding a 180m-tall, mixed-use landmark to the city’s skyline. The development, by M3M India Ltd, will create two office buildings served by triple-height shops on the ground floor, more retail on the first floor, with the second floor entirely dedicated to F&B options. The development will be very conveniently located on the city’s Golf Course Extension Road in the highly sought-after Sector 66. It sits in one of India’s fastest-growing business hubs, surrounded by an affluent residential neighbourhood and close to main routes to and from south New Delhi and the international airport.

Orbit Towers, Hyderabad, India

Orbit Towers provides over 102,000m² GLA of office space for IT workers on 25 floors, with a food court and business centre on the ground floor. 20 high-speed lifts are provided, with separate lifts and escalators between ground level and the basement car park for security purposes. The car park provides 2,000 spaces over four basement levels. Pre-cast construction technology is being used to create the above-ground building, while the basement levels are being built conventional construction methods.

Chapman Taylor created the masterplan for Orbit Towers, as well as designing the interiors, landscape and detail, on behalf of Aurobindo Realty & Infrastructure, Hyderabad. The development is set to complete in 2021.

The Indian Museum, Kolkata, India

Home to rare collections of antiques, armour and ornaments, fossils, skeletons, mummies, and Mughal paintings, the Indian Museum in Kolkata is the largest museum in India. Funded by the Union Ministry of Culture, Chapman Taylor undertook a major restoration and renovation of the museum.

Chapman Taylor was Lead Architect on this nationally significant renovation project, which was reopened by the then Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, in 2014.

East Kidwai Nagar, New Delhi, India

This large, mixed-use ‘Smart City’ contains 4,700 apartments and 110,000m² of office space, with environmental sustainability at the heart of the design. Chapman Taylor is responsible for the masterplanning, design and implementation of this 1,350,000m² GBA project.

The scheme won a 5-star award for ‘Best Public Service Architecture in India’ at the 2017-18 International Asia Pacific Property Awards. East Kidwai Nagar has also been included in the Indian government’s ‘Smart City Guidelines’, and the Indian government showcased the project at the COP21 climate change conference in Paris in December 2015.

Park View Grand Spa, Gurugram, India

Park View Grand Spa in Gurugram is a large residential development consisting of nine 20-storey towers and one 33-storey tower. Each tower has three lifts and benefits from three-sided open views. Centred on an eight acre landscaped park, the development provides an environment in which residents can enjoy themselves both indoors and outdoors – various sports areas are incorporated, along with children’s recreation facilities. As well as a high-quality spa amenity with table-tennis and pool tables and a multi-purpose hall, Park View provides a school and other facilities for its residents. Sustainability is a key feature of the design, including optimum cross-ventilation and abundant natural daylight.

Chapman Taylor’s New Delhi studio were responsible for masterplanning and architectural design. Park View Grand Spa was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ status in the ‘Residential High-Rise for India’ category at the Asia Pacific Property Awards, 2016.

Renaissance Marriott 5* Hotel, Lucknow, India

Renaissance Marriott is a 120-room, 5-Star hotel in a prime location with views over the Gomti River in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Spread over 16 floors, with a large banquet hall and business centre on the ground and first levels, the hotel offers all-day dining, a multi-cuisine restaurant, a swimming pool and a bar. Before it even opened in 2015, the project gained the accolade ‘Highly Recommended’ in the ‘Best Hotel Architecture for India’ category at the Asia-Pacific Property Awards.

Chapman Taylor was Lead Architect on this critically acclaimed, landmark hotel.

Park View Ananda, Gurugram, India

Park View Ananda is large gated residential community providing approximately 75,000m² of living space on a site to the west of central Gurugram, India. The masterplan places eight 15-storey towers and 11 villas around large and extensively landscaped gardens and community parklands. The 2, 3 and 4-bed apartments range in size from 80m² to 250m², while the parkland area includes facilities such as a clubhouse and gym, a spa, sports facilities, children’s play areas, a large amphitheatre and a jogging track.

Chapman Taylor developed the masterplan and acted as Lead Architect on this project, which won ‘Premium Apartment Project of the Year (North)’ at the 2015 NDTV Property Awards.
