A BUILDING AND ITS CHARACTER SHAPED BY NATURE

A BUILDING AND ITS CHARACTER SHAPED BY NATURE

The prevailing wind is a key challange and opportunity in this location. Like the grass that is affected by prevailing wind, this building receives its character from shapes and surfaces that are shaped by wind erosion.

Combining the idea of the shelter, protected by the facade where winds are the strongest and the idea of disruption, the erosion gives a unique and strong identity to the building. ‘Modular Erosion’ is only effective when taking double tripple storey volumes out of the building. This larger scale erosion could be used to divide the building programatically throughout to provide amenity spaces or building features, while surface focusses on the facade elemements.

From analysing the erosion on a microscopic level, analogies can be made for the response of the building.

Large volumetric erosion embodies centralities while surface erosion dresses the facade with varying intensity depending on the wind direction and orientation of the building.
