Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao Healthcare & Research Campus nears completion
Construction on the Chapman Taylor-designed Healthcare Research Campus in Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone has reached its final stages. The curtain wall has now been completed, and the 130,000m² development, which began following Chapman Taylor’s competition-winning design, will soon become a major hub for medical research and innovation.
The state-of-the-art campus comprises three north–south-oriented towers, designed to maximise natural light and optimise internal efficiency. The western façades and podiums are carefully integrated into the surrounding urban fabric, while the eastern side opens seamlessly onto a municipal green space, creating a strong connection between the complex and its wider city context.
A blend of contemporary form and timeless materials gives the development a sleek, technological character. Landscaped courtyards and rooftop gardens promote wellbeing and interaction, while private terraces on every office floor provide access to greenery and outdoor space.
Designed for flexibility and collaboration, the Healthcare Research Campus accommodates laboratories, research facilities, and ancillary amenities, creating an ecosystem that encourages innovation and shared resource use.
Once complete, the project will stand as a new architectural landmark for Shanghai, showcasing Chapman Taylor’s expertise in integrated workplace design and its commitment to creating environments that support research, innovation, and human wellbeing.
