Riverside Wharf in Swansea Bay reaches topping-out milestone

Designed by Chapman Taylor for Everwell Development, Riverside Wharf in Swansea Bay has reached a major construction milestone, with the residential development now topping out on site.

Located on Kings Road along the River Tawe, the scheme is being delivered for Everwell Development in joint venture with Beacon Cymru Group and will provide 104 high-quality affordable homes alongside a commercial unit in a prominent waterfront setting. The project is transforming a long-derelict brownfield site adjacent to Ice House Square into a sustainable and inclusive new neighbourhood that supports the ongoing regeneration of Swansea’s waterfront.

Reaching this stage marks an important step in bringing forward a contemporary residential environment designed to respond sensitively to its marine, industrial and historic context while strengthening connections between the marina, the river and surrounding public spaces. The development’s commercial element will further activate the southern edge of Ice House Square, contributing to a vibrant mixed-use destination.

Designed to achieve high environmental performance, the homes integrate passive design strategies and low-carbon technologies in line with Welsh Development Quality Requirements, helping reduce energy demand and running costs while supporting Wales’ wider decarbonisation ambitions. The scheme also incorporates inclusive design principles and flood-resilience measures suited to its riverside location, ensuring long-term adaptability and climate resilience.

With the structure now complete, works will continue on façades, interiors and public realm, moving the project closer to completion and the delivery of much-needed affordable homes for Swansea Bay.
