Refurbished Plenilunio shopping centre opens in Madrid

The opening ceremony for the transformed Plenilunio shopping centre took place in Madrid on 26 September.

The 70,000m² building was originally opened in 2006 and welcomes 11 million visitors annually. Chapman Taylor’s refurbishment of Plenilunio creates a sophisticated, simple and modern design aesthetic.

Among the 475m² of digital LED technology incorporated at Plenilunio are 10 large digital LED screens, four wayfinding screens, an interactive screen, 40 MUPI screens and a giant LED display on the cinema façade. Digital LED screens provide a dynamic focal point in the central atrium, with large LED columns and wraparound LED ribbons providing advertising and audiovisual displays which can be combined in a synchronized manner to create a dazzling attraction for customers.

The technology combines to lead customers into the 'phygital' space - combining the physical shopping experience with digital immersion in a new way of experiencing the shopping centre.

The flooring, food court, bathrooms, lifts and other spaces have been completely renovated, creating modern and clean lines that provide a new image for the space. The redesign also creates elegant new entrances that create a ‘Wow’ effect for entering visitors.

Chapman Taylor designed the refurbishment for Klépierre, with its delivery carried out in a way which allowed the centre to continue trading throughout.

We look forward to seeing Plenilunio prosper in its new form for many years to come.
