Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent granted for Upper Precinct, Coventry

Chapman Taylor is delighted to report that Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent have been granted by Coventry City Council for the transformation of Upper Precinct in Coventry city centre.

Our proposals on behalf of JP Morgan and Shearer Property Group include the removal of many insensitive modern additions to the post-war architecture which have proved detrimental to the urban environment.

Chapman Taylor’s plan restores views to the historic cathedral spire and enhances the quality of the area’s public realm. New retail outlets and high-quality shop fronts have been introduced, while the upper levels contain new student accommodation.

Student accommodation sits at the upper levels, with new shops and improved frontages at street level

It is anticipated that work will begin on this major asset enhancement project in the summer of 2018.

The development forms part of the ongoing regeneration of Coventry city centre, a programme which is backed by Coventry City Council. Upper Precinct is central to the plan, which is giving the city centre a timely boost prior to Coventry taking over as UK City of Culture in 2021.

Insensitive modern additions, such as this stairwell, will be removed to restore views of the historic city spires
