Green light to Chapman Taylor-designed Breogán Park in A Coruña
Breogán Park has just been granted a municipal building permit from the Spanish authorities and works will commence shortly. The 60,000m² retail park, designed by Chapman Taylor, is situated on the north coast of Galicia, close to the centre of A Coruña. It will offer a mix of F&B, self-storage, co-working facilities, leisure opportunities and 7,000m² of sports activity space, all served by 2,600 parking spaces.
Intended as a replacement for the Dolce Vita shopping centre, it is anticipated the site will welcome 20,000 visitors a year. "We welcome with enthusiasm this great milestone, since Breogán Park is going to transform, relaunch and reactivate very positively the current scenario of the Agrela business park offering," said Teresa Firvida, manager of the Association of Entrepreneurs of Agrela.
According to Javier Torralba, director of Breeam Spain, "Breogán Park is one of the largest urban regeneration projects developed in Spain. It has a direct and positive impact on both the city and its inhabitants and is an example in terms of sustainability at the national level, which champions in an extraordinary and exemplary way the values of our certification". The project is the first and only commercial park in Spain with the "Excellent" rating in the BREEAM sustainability certification in Construction.
It is anticipated that the construction phase, due to last two years, will generate about 1,500 jobs. Once Breogán Park is open, more than 1,300 jobs will be created.
