Chapman Taylor designs landmark year-round mountain destination in Azerbaijan
Chapman Taylor has designed the masterplan and architectural concept for Shahdag Residences and Chalets, an ambitious new residential and leisure destination set within Azerbaijan's spectacular Greater Caucasus Mountains.
Developed by Prime Core Construction, the project is located approximately 1,700 metres above sea level within Shahdag Mountain Resort, one of Azerbaijan's leading year-round tourism destinations.
The 140,000m² mixed-use development brings together residential apartments, private chalets and villas, alongside restaurants, cafés, retail spaces and leisure amenities, creating a vibrant mountain community designed for living and recreation.
Inspired by the surrounding landscape, Chapman Taylor's design combines contemporary architecture with Alpine influences and natural materials. Carefully positioned buildings and generous glazing maximise mountain views while strengthening the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
At the heart of the masterplan, a new Town Square and pedestrian promenade will provide welcoming spaces for residents and visitors to gather, socialise and enjoy the mountain environment. Restaurants, cafés and après-ski facilities will support an active public realm.
Close to Shahdag's existing ski slopes, lifts and hotels, the development offers convenient access to winter sports, while summer activities such as hiking and outdoor recreation will support its appeal.
The residential offering includes one- to four-bedroom apartments, duplex penthouses and private chalets, complemented by amenities such as concierge services, sports equipment storage and underground parking.
Chapman Taylor is working with an international multidisciplinary team to create a destination that balances architectural quality, environmental performance, and resident comfort in a challenging mountain climate.
