Chapman Taylor awarded AJ100 Employer of the Year 2009

At the Architects’ Journal’s annual awards ceremony in May 2009, it was announced that Chapman Taylor is the first practice to win the newly created ‘Employer of the Year’ award.

The award was judged on the basis of employee feedback received through an online questionnaire circulated earlier in the year, to which there were over 1,000 respondents from different architectural firms. Other shortlisted firms were Archial Architects, Atkins, Capita Architecture, Purcell Miller Tritton and Scott Brownrigg.

Chapman Taylor was also shortlisted for Practice of the Year alongside Darling Associates, HKS Architects, Hopkins Architects and John Thompson and Partners.

Employer of the Year

WINNER Chapman Taylor

When the AJ100 industry survey asked Chapman Taylor’s staff to compare the firm with previous employers, 80 per cent rated the firm favourably, while 20 per cent said it was the best place they’d ever worked. Chapman Taylor celebrated its 50th anniversary last year by opening 27 schemes in 11 countries. The firm also won the International Trade Award for the London Region and received over 20 other prizes, with one of its most celebrated projects being St Pancras International. Chapman Taylor’s focus on energy performance criteria has continued throughout its UK and international operations and across sectors such as mixed-use, healthcare, conservation, retail and transport.

Employer of the Year was awarded on the basis of the AJ100 industry survey and the AJ100 data. Practices were judged on new business, repeat business, staff turnover, profit margin and winning awards, as well as staff satisfaction, salaries, bonuses, benefits and office culture.
