Chapman Taylor announces the winner of Loughborough University MArch Part II best graduating project
We are pleased to announce that the winner of Loughborough University MArch Part II Best Graduating Project is 'Aquatic Revival' by Charlotte Hall.
Over the course of the past nine months, we have been deeply involved in the concluding year of the Master's programme at Loughborough University School of Architecture. The students' final project explored ideas of regenerating a seventy-five-hectare post-industrial waterfront site in Hamnen, Malmö. Prior to the students' initial site visit to Sweden, Chapman Taylor led an interactive workshop which introduced the key design principles and drivers of successful masterplanning and placemaking.
The project has evolved through several key stages of design development. The early design stages focused on identifying overall site strategies, site zoning, and integration with the wider context, progressing to specific site selection and first-phase development within each student's masterplan. This culminated in the detailed design for a seminal landmark building.
We have been extremely impressed by the design quality and thought processes demonstrated by the students throughout the year, as well as the collaborative spirit fostered by the group as a whole. All students have created unique identities for their projects and developed designs which promote urban renewal with a great deal of consideration and empathy for the local area. Charlotte's proposals were all beautifully crafted, consistently presented, and visually compelling, whilst conveying a strong architectural narrative and a holistic sustainable framework for this challenging city peninsula.
