Celebrating our 60th anniversary across the world
To celebrate Chapman Taylor’s 60th anniversary on 30 May, our international design studios have been holding a number of events around the world. Below we take a look at some of the ways in which our worldwide employees marked the milestone, starting with the place where it all began in 1959.
London
On 30 May, our London team took part in a guided architectural tour of some of London’s best contemporary architecture.
The two-hour walk from St Paul’s Cathedral was led by experts from Insider London, offering intriguing insights into how the buildings were designed, the ways in which they complement (or not) their historical contexts and some of their lesser-known and quirky features.
The anniversary walk was followed by well-earned food and drinks afterwards at Pergola Paddington, near our London studio, where we celebrated Chapman Taylor’s anniversary until late in the evening.
Manchester
Our team in Manchester took a boat tour from right outside our canal-side studio and sailed down to MediaCityUK, where we have worked extensively over the last 10 years. Following a presentation on our company's history, there was a tour of the MediaCityUK site, followed by food and drinks at The Alchemist bar and restaurant at MediaCityUK, with the fun continuing into the evening.
Bristol
Our Bristol team had a guided tour around Cabot Circus, which was designed by Chapman Taylor, by the centre's management team, followed by a meal at one of the centre's restaurants.
The day was great fun, and was a fitting way to mark this milestone in Chapman Taylor’s history.
Bangkok
Our Bangkok studio celebrated the 60th anniversary with a visit to 'Ancient Siam' (Mueang Boran), a village museum that occupies 200 acres in the shape of Thailand. Ancient Siam is thought to be the world's largest outdoor museum. Everyone had a fun time and learned a great deal about Thailand's traditional life.
Milan
Our Milan studio marked the anniversary by visiting 'Milano Leonardo 500', an exhibition on the life and works of Leonardo da Vinci, at Castello Sforzesco in Milan. The event was very interesting and inspiring for everyone who attended.
Madrid
Our Madrid studio celebrated Chapman Taylor's 60th anniversary on 30 May by taking part in fun team-building games at a farm outside the city, followed by food, drink and karaoke.
Among the challenges were wooden spear throwing, building Fred Flinstone's car and creating geometric shapes using signalling language. Many impressive hidden talents were discovered!
Prague
Chapman Taylor Prague celebrated the company's 60th anniversary by bringing together past and present employees for a delicious meal and a few drinks at a restaurant in the city.
Everyone enjoyed catching up and discussing their latest work while enjoying the great food and company.
Shanghai
Chapman Taylor's Shanghai studio continued the 60th anniversary celebrations on 6 June, with a presentation from our Directors, drinks, food and a special birthday cake enjoyed by 60 members of the team!
The very successful and busy studio took time out to enjoy learning about the company's distinguished history and to enjoy the festivities.
Düsseldorf
Our Düsseldorf studio celebrated Chapman Taylor‘s 60th anniversary by enjoying weißwurst (Bavarian white sausages) and laugenbrezel (soft pretzels), beer and sekt while Director Jens Siegfried talked about our company's history.
The distinctively German fare was enjoyed by everyone, particularly the laugenbrezel, which was baked in the shape of a '6' and a '0' to mark the occasion!
Paris
Chapman Taylor's Paris studio celebrated our 60th birthday with lunch at the highly acclaimed Maison de l'Amerique Latine in the city's Saint-Germain district.
They then visited Beaupassage, a new shopping, residential, food, wine and wellness centre in the heart of Paris.
Brussels
Chapman Taylor's Brussels studio continued our 60th anniversary festivities with a delicious and fun celebratory meal at Waasland shopping centre - itself designed and delivered by the studio!
Warsaw
Chapman Taylor's Warsaw studio marked our 60th anniversary by taking part in a ‘Polish your cooking’ teambuilding workshop, making delicious Italian, French, Thai and Spanish dishes to reflect the multinational nature of Chapman Taylor - both its global network of studios and the diverse background of its employees at each studio.
The team then got to sample their creations, which were tasty and well-received by all!
Chapman Taylor was formed in London in 1959 by Bob Chapman, John Taylor and Jane Durham, and the past 60 years have seen us expand to open studios across the world and work on over 2,000 successful global projects, many of which have been award winners, in a variety of industry sectors.
Our 60th anniversary will continue to be marked throughout the coming weeks with events and celebrations by our other studios across the world.
