Building application submitted for restoration of Zollhaus building, Weil am Rhein

A building application has been submitted to the building authorities in Weil am Rhein, Germany, for the restoration of the listed "Alte Badische Zollhaus" (Old Baden Customs House), adjacent to Chapman Taylor designed and recently opened Dreiländergalerie shopping centre.

The Zollhaus building in Weil am Rhein will be extensively restored and revitalised in close cooperation with the monument preservation authorities, with food and beverage outlets on two floors.

The main access to the building will be from Mühlheimer Straße via the historic entrance. The renovations include the restoration of two vaults, one of which will provide access to the restaurant at basement level. A cold room will be added, as well as storage areas and a completely new heating system. Historical elements on the ground floor will be completely preserved.

Dreiländergalerie shopping centre opened in September 2022

Dreiländergalerie, or Three Countries Gallery, is so named after its unique location in Germany, close to the borders of France and Switzerland. This 63,000m² GBA mixed-use destination combines three retail floors, a fitness centre and three parking levels for 586 cars, in addition to 220 bicycle spaces.

The attractive development is surrounded by high-quality public realm spaces, one of which contains the "Alte Badische Zollhaus" building.
