Associate Director Daniel Morgans assesses the future of the UK’s retail park sector

Associate Director Daniel Morgans has written an Insight paper assessing current thinking on the future for retail parks in the UK. In it, he examines the key themes which will shape the retail park experience in years to come.

In particular, Daniel outlines eight fundamental concepts which retail park developers and designers should bear in mind in order to thrive in this challenging era.

  1. A sense of arrival, and evidence of a ‘story’.
  2. A curated guest experience, with seamless digital integration and an ever-changing programme of local events.
  3. A sense of place and community, and an engaging, attractive environment.
  4. Points of convergence and grandeur, and a mix of scales.
  5. A mix of uses (leisure, retail, F&B) and a range of tenancies that constantly evolves.
  6. High standards and discipline, but not exclusive of a sense of fun.
  7. If appropriate, a residential, office and/or live/work component to the site.
  8. Prepare for the future, but don’t try and predict it.
