Responsive art

Research project

This ongoing research project based on a 'respiring adaptive field' (a breathing/moving structure) is being conducted by Chapman Taylor’s Prague studio, in which we have been exploring the dynamic qualities of tensegrity structures. We have created an interactive installation which models the way in which materials are capable of moving in response to human and other interactions.

The model we have created is capable of being used as a prototype for a responsive piece of art that could be used in public spaces to create an interesting and ever-changing feature, with no two responses to external stimuli being the same.

The structure can also serve a number of practical functions, such as providing movement-responsive shading from the harshest glare of the sun inside glass atriums.

Our research into how the model can be used in practical settings is ongoing.
