Park Street Cairo

We have also recently prepared a concept design for the Redevelopment of the Public Administration Building on Tahrir Square as part of a PFI competition bid by Egyptian developer Samcrete.

The 55.000 m2 grand building on the emblematic Tahrir Square will be redeveloped for commercial, office, hotel and residential uses.

As the exterior of the building cannot be altered, the emphasis of Chapman Taylor’s concept is on the connection between the large landscaped square in front of the building and the inner courtyards.

Using reference to the Square, the Nile, the desert and wind, new landscape and built elements are introduced to shape this idea.

Hills cover restaurant pavilions and canopies mark the entrances and restaurant terraces, creating a transition from inside to outside. The courtyards are covered and sculptural solid curtains are added in the form of veils in the wind. These courtyards will act as the main vertical connectors between the uses and floors.

The Chapman Taylor concept design was very well received.
