Chapman Taylor's Johnny Jiang presents at East China Architectural Design Symposium
Chapman Taylor's Shanghai Director, Johnny Jiang, was invited to speak at the 2026 East China Regional Symposium of the Architectural Design Branch of the China Exploration and Design Association, held in Hangzhou on 23 October 2026.
The symposium brought together leading architectural professionals and industry experts to exchange ideas on the future of architectural practice. A dedicated session focused on international collaboration and the global expansion of Chinese architectural design firms, exploring opportunities for knowledge sharing, cross-border partnerships and development in overseas markets.
Johnny delivered a presentation entitled “Connecting through collaboration, Creating new possibilities: Architectural practice and regeneration through international partnerships”, drawing on Chapman Taylor's extensive international experience in architecture, masterplanning and urban regeneration.
As a case study, Johnny highlighted Chapman Taylor's Grand Harbour urban regeneration masterplan in Malta, demonstrating how sensitive waterfront regeneration can balance the preservation of historic character with the introduction of contemporary uses.
The project illustrates how former dockland areas can be revitalised through a considered approach to heritage, connectivity and mixed-use development, creating opportunities for economic activity, public engagement and long-term urban renewal.
Johnny's presentation emphasised the value of international partnerships in bringing together diverse perspectives, technical expertise and local knowledge to address complex urban challenges.
