Chapman Taylor’s Geoff Miller on judging panel for 2019 Urban Design Awards

Geoff Miller, from Chapman Taylor’s Manchester studio, will be part of the judging panel for the 2019 Urban Design Awards.

Geoff has worked with Chapman Taylor since 2011 on a range of large-scale retail and mixed-use projects and has wide experience in the urban regeneration and residential sectors in the UK, Hungary and China. He also teaches urban masterplanning at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Geoff and the other panel members will determine the winner of the Student and Public Sector awards. They will also agree a preferred winner of the Practice award, though this will be matched by a public vote from the Urban Design Group’s membership. The panel’s decisions will be made on Wednesday 10 October.

The annual Urban Design Awards are organised by the Urban Design Group to honour the best examples of private and public sector urban design.

Chapman Taylor was asked to join the panel having won the 2018 ‘Best Practice’ award for our urban transformation project, Altstadtquartier Büchel, in the medieval city centre of Aachen – a sensitive regeneration masterplan in a UNESCO World Heritage location.

Chapman Taylor’s competition-winning design for Aachen creates a thriving, mixed-use district through the careful redesign of the medieval area to include new streets, public squares, housing, offices, shops and a kindergarten. The masterplan creates an area which is seamlessly linked to the old town without becoming a pastiche of it. Construction will begin in 2019.

We wish the very best of luck to all this year’s entrants!
