Senior Architect (Manchester)

Our UK Residential team is involved in the design of nationally significant, large-scale residential and mixed-use projects across the UK and internationally. We are involved in all stages from masterplanning and feasibility through to design delivery. We have an exciting opportunity for an ARB-registered Senior Architect to join our busy creative studio in Manchester and to develop your career in a well-structured, supportive environment. THE CANDIDATE

We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and ambitious, design-led architect to join our UK-residential team, based in our Manchester studio.

The ideal candidate will be an ARB registered Architect with a minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience. You will enjoy working as part of a team and be able to lead and motivate others. You will have the opportunity to be actively involved in business development and support various R&D initiatives and research while performing a key design role. Proven residential design experience at masterplanning and concept design stages, and of having successfully led projects through the planning stages with local planning authorities, are essential.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to confidently present their design ideas using a variety of media. A residential design track record with a recognised architectural practice is essential. You should already be in a position of responsibility within an architectural organisation and will be familiar with the current requirements and planning legislation for large-scale residential projects in the UK.

You will be focused on helping to continue to grow Chapman Taylor’s Residential design team in Manchester and will be expected to play an active part in business development for this sector, becoming a member of Chapman Taylor’s UK Residential team and thought leadership programme.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The role is a senior position, reporting directly to the senior leadership of the business, and brings with it the areas of responsibility outlined below. You will represent the practice, lead your projects and be responsible for the quality of design and client service, in addition to having day-to-day involvement in the leadership and management of the residential feasibility teams and resources.

Specific responsibilities

  • Producing design proposals using hand sketches / SketchUp / Revit / CAD / Models
  • Supporting business development for the residential sector
  • Feasibility, capacity studies and concept design work on residential projects
  • Contribute to and foster high-quality design
  • Lead residential projects through the early feasibility, concept design and planning stages.
  • Communicating and presenting design thinking and philosophies to clients and local planning authorities
  • Assist in managing the Manchester studio’s feasibility team resource.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and R&D within the residential sector.

  • Lead the concept design of new projects and contribute to internal design reviews
  • Prepare design proposals using a variety of software, hand sketches and CAD modelling
  • Present design proposals through iterative design reviews with the senior team and externally to clients and design team consultants
  • Produce and maintain project information in line with Chapman Taylor’s QA systems
  • Integrate appropriate technical design and statutory requirements with all design proposals
  • Assist with project planning/finance
  • Assist with team management
  • To be an ambassador for the Chapman Taylor Group, promoting its values and beliefs.

  • To promote collaborative team working.
