Off-site construction of Brent Cross West station overbridge under way

A covered pedestrian overbridge for the new Brent Cross West Thameslink station in North London is currently being constructed off-site as part of the first phase of the station’s delivery.

Off-site, factory-controlled construction allows the bridge to be built to a high quality and at a fast pace, with no interruptions due to weather or other external factors.

The £40 million station, being delivered by VolkerFitzpatrick, is part of the wider Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme as well as serving Brent Cross shopping centre, the renewal and extension of which Chapman Taylor has also been designing.

The design for Brent Cross West will create a modern, attractive and functionally optimal station which will serve the new Brent Cross town centre, providing improved links for passengers travelling to Central London or to Luton and Gatwick Airports as well as being conveniently close to Brent Cross shopping centre for visitors from across the Thameslink network.

The station is being designed for maximum inclusivity, including seamless access for persons of restricted mobility. The platforms have been designed to accommodate 12-carriage trains and up to eight peak stopping services each day. A covered bridge will provide well-lit and easy access for people from Barnet who use the station.

Chapman Taylor is working alongside WSP Engineering Consultants to design the new Brent Cross West Thameslink station, which is due to open to passengers in May 2022.
