New concept designs created for a media and digital technology hub in St Petersburg

Chapman Taylor has produced concept designs for a state-of-the-art media centre in St Petersburg.

The new complex, which has been designed to form a striking architectural landmark in the city, creates a new benchmark for broadcast media and digital technology facilities in Russia – an efficient, cutting-edge and inspiring place to work for those working within and an attractive destination for visitors.

We produced two concept options for this media community – “Ice Floes” and “Stem & Flower”.

Ice flows

The “Ice Floes” concept draws inspiration from the way in which an ice sheet divides into independent parts while still forming part of a unified phenomenon – the design envisages the various departments of the media organisation flowing into and around the site to frame a dynamic, open plaza facing the main headquarters building. The result is a well-connected array of exciting and diverse attractions for visitors to the site alongside top-class office space.

Stem & Flower

The “Stem & Flowers” concept draws upon the area’s history, specifically its herbal medicine tradition. The “stem” of the complex creates a path from the south-eastern entrance of the site to the north-west, lined by attractions and facilities, before “drooping” towards the renovated headquarters building and the events plaza. Six buildings act as the “flowers” protruding from this stem, creating a dynamic frontage on the adjacent street.

Chapman Taylor’s design creates the basis for a sustainable and future-proofed media and digital technology hub while offering a vibrant new destination for visitors from across the region.
