Meet our retail design experts at MAPIC 2019 on 13-15 November

Experts from all of our European studios will again be present at this year’s MAPIC retail conference, ready to talk about our extensive experience and capabilities in the retail and mixed-use sectors.

MAPIC, held each November the southern French city of Cannes, is the leading showcase for the best in international retail property. More than 8,500 participants from over 80 countries will take part, including leading names in architecture, investment, retailing and other parts of the retail sector. The programme includes exhibitions, networking events, lectures and discussion groups.

Chapman Taylor is a world leader in retail and mixed-use design, working across all retail typologies from masterplanning large-scale, mixed-use regenerations of historic city centres and designing major shopping malls through to creating retail areas for transport hubs and individual refurbishments.

Milanord2, Milan, Italy

Milanord2 will be a dynamic and strategically well-located retail and leisure destination which will house 98,500m2 of retail stores and 10,000m2 of restaurants, cafés and bars. The 41,000m2 Sky Plaza will host free, open-air games and sports activities along with many cultural events.

The centre, which is only 30 minutes from central Milan, will include a cinema, children’s play areas and a marketplace for fresh, local produce as part of the family-friendly offering.

The aim is to create a day-out experience for people of all backgrounds and generations in a unique new style of multi-use shopping environment, which will provide a community hub for the city and the wider region.

Milanord2 is very well connected – it houses a metro station for the Red and Lilac M1 subway lines beneath the centre and is also served by several bus routes, ample car parking, bicycle stations and cycle paths.

Ashford Designer Outlet Extension, Ashford, UK

Opened in October 2019, this extension to the existing designer outlet complex adds 50 retail, leisure and F&B units to the 80 already operating, as well as a new events space and a children’s play area. The canopy roof on the existing building was modified to tie the new area in visually.

A net 324 extra parking spaces have been created to serve the development, while links to Ashford town centre are being improved to facilitate the whole scheme.

Reflecting Kent’s status as “the Garden of England”, a living green wall of tens of thousands of vertically-stacked plants clads the centre – the largest living wall in Europe – greeting affluent long-haul tourists from Europe and beyond as well as day-out shoppers.

Chapman Taylor designed the new extension for McArthurGlen alongside Applied Landscape Design.

City Plaza, Wuppertal, Germany

A five-storey flagship store for Primark, City Plaza is the centrepiece of a large urban redevelopment project which marks the rail gateway to Wuppertal’s city centre, forming part of an assembly of impressive historical buildings which define the remodelled square in front of the railway station.

City Plaza’s curved façade is clad with brass panels which alternate with the glass of the curtain wall, lifting the area's look and feel alongside major improvements to the surrounding public realm.

Chapman Taylor’s Düsseldorf studio, together with the investor, Signature Capital, won a prestigious German Polis Award for City Plaza in the "Regenerated Town Centres" category in 2016.
