Europa shopping centre opens in Voronezh, Russia

Chapman Taylor is pleased to report that Europa shopping centre was opened to the public on 15 May in Voronezh, Russia.

The four-level, 23,000m² project comprises a hypermarket, shops, a food court and a Bakhor restaurant, all served by 200 car parking spaces. The façade design allows easy identification of the scheme’s key areas, such as the central atrium gallery and the café terraces.

The design concept uses a maritime theme, exemplified by the bright colour scheme and the dynamic canopies. Colourful café terraces create a striking western façade, attracting visitors from the adjacent park and riverside. Extensive glazing and façade lighting mean that there is abundant natural light during the day and a strikingly lit development at night.

The roofing, being relatively low-level and surrounded by overlooking residential areas, has been designed as a fifth façade, creating an inclined ceiling for the gallery area and a wave-like form for the hypermarket.

The development, sitting on the left bank of the Voronezh River, is the third Europa shopping centre in the city. It is anticipated that the new shopping centre will inject 100 million Russian roubles into the local economy, creating about 300 jobs.

Chapman Taylor developed the concept design for Europa Voronezh. The design scheme has been praised by local authorities for the way in which it complements its surroundings.
