Chapman Taylor’s UK Interiors team sharpens its focus

Chapman Taylor’s UK Interiors team has been strengthened and refocused, renewing its commitment to the UK market while continuing its international work. The team has been reinforced with new members and new capabilities, with a view to building upon its reputation for creative, award-winning designs.

With new ideas and opportunities transforming the property market, the team will be placing a special emphasis on key, dynamic sectors, including retail asset transformation, residential projects, especially in the steadily evolving Build-to-Rent market, workplace fit-outs and hospitality projects. With a restructured team in place, our clients can now draw on a wider range of skill-sets and experience than ever before.

Interiors Director Jon Grant has worked in the UK, South-East Asia and the Middle East, and has designed successful interior schemes for a diverse range of projects in these markets, working with clients which include Google, Mandarin Oriental, Singha Estates, Tesco and IKEA and Emaar Entertainment.

Jon has brought in Associate Director Kristina Madirazza from our Milan studio to supplement Chapman Taylor’s UK Interiors experience and expertise. Kristina has extensive design experience working on residential, hospitality and retail schemes in the UK, Italy, Croatia and the wider Balkans.

Among the recent and current projects worked on by the team are:

Riedel Wine Bar & Cellar in Bangkok

The best designed (small) retail/leisure outlet in a shopping centre anywhere in the world in 2018 (ICSC VIVA Global Awards).

Riedel Wine Bar & Cellar in Bangkok is the first wine bar and restaurant by the world renowned Riedel glassware company. This high profile project balances functionality with Riedel brand heritage and high-quality design. The material palette makes use of brass, vintage leather and silky textiles. Chapman Taylor was responsible for space planning and interior design, creating a series of different areas – a private room, a terrace, a retail area with wine-tasting corner and a restaurant with small bar and innovative ‘wine emotion’ machines. This project won the 2018 Retail (Small Format) Award at the ICSC VIVA Global Awards, recognising it as the best designed (small) retail/leisure outlet in a shopping centre anywhere in the world in 2018.

The Watergardens, at Lifestyle Outlets’ Lowry Centre in Manchester, is an elegant design concept which will host a series of diverse restaurant options within an attractive landscape which makes full use of the southerly aspect – creating a food destination which will have the best waterside views in Greater Manchester. The development will incorporate biophilic design principles to blend natural features, such as planted landscaping and improved natural light, with the urban environment. Existing waterside trees will be thinned out to ensure that the remaining trees have sufficient space to thrive, while also allowing for much-improved views across the water.

The interior design concept for the 790m² ISG Headquarters at MediaCityUK’s Tomorrow Building, which was itself designed and delivered by Chapman Taylor, adopted an urban loft theme, using materials which evoke the northern waterways connecting Manchester and Liverpool to bring a sense of life and connection to the long and narrow floor plate. Our plan was carefully designed to provide an efficient floorplan which would maximise integration of the design concept with the client’s vision and operational requirements. The building is also naturally lit and ventilated.

The Interiors team is currently working on a design concept for a new retail-led development in India, for which the design concepts take advantage of, and are inspired by, the location and surrounding environment. The scheme provides all the elements a luxury mall requires, including an enhanced customer experience and diverse tenant provision on each floor - including high-end retailers, leisure anchors and F&B units which offer breathtaking, panoramic sea views to enhance a variety of fine-dining experiences.

Chapman Taylor interior design schemes have been warmly received by clients and end-users, with several award wins attesting to our world-class design capabilities. We believe that successful interior designs need to be creative, ambitious yet commercially realistic, as well as being future-proofed with the flexibility to allow for incremental modifications over time to maintain pace with customers’ changing tastes and needs.
