Chapman Taylor attends UK-Thailand Khon Kaen Smart City Workshop in North East Thailand
Associate Director Davide de Visdomini and Senior Architect Antonio Aguilar, from Chapman Taylor’s Bangkok studio, spoke at the UK-Thailand Khon Kaen Smart City Workshop in North East Thailand on 10-11 March.
The two-day event, hosted by Khon Kaen University and Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, highlighted the latest smart city initiatives. The first day included a visit to the Khon Kaen's Smart City Operation Centre (SCOPC), where the guests were introduced to the city's initiatives in smart refuse collection, smart healthcare, smart buses and smart parking. There was also a visit to to a battery manufacturing plant to look at the latest battery technology.
On the second day, the attendees took part in a workshop at the city's Avani Hotel, organised by the British Embassy and depa Thailand, with speakers including the Governor of Khon Kaen, the Deputy UK Ambassador to Thailand and a mix of public and private stakeholders. Davide and Antonio spoke about Chapman Taylor’s growing portfolio of smart city projects across Asia as well as other relevant international projects. Among the latest designs we have created for the sector is Hyper City Dong Mo, a 308-hectare smart city masterplan created by our Bangkok studio for a new, technologically advanced urban area beside Lake Dong Mo, near Son Tay in Vietnam.
In both China and South East Asia, there is now a strong push by governments to develop smart cities, with the use of tax incentives and other measures to encourage the creation of many new smart districts in the coming decade. Chapman Taylor is already at the forefront of this expansion and will continue to promote the benefits of smart city design, both in South East Asia and throughout the rest of the world.
